• Despite the fact that 95% of people suffer with acne at some point in their life, textured skin is still not represented enough in the media.

  • Although acne often disappears by the time a person reaches their mid-twenties, 8% of acne sufferers are aged 25-35. This leaves adult acne sufferers feeling like they have been left behind, or there is something wrong with them.

  • SPOT is a campaign focusing on how few adults with acne are featured in film, TV and advertising. The campaign uses historical portraiture as a metaphor for modern day media.

As part of the SPOT campaign, the National Portrait Gallery will hold an exhibition of their paintings with a twist. Each specifically chosen painting from the NPG collection will have a layer of acne placed on a glass screen in front to create the appearance of skin texture.

By inviting members of the public to the exhibition, the campaign aims to normalise skin texture and break the stigma of seeing ordinary skin in the media.
